Size really does matter…. when you’re choosing a wagon!

When buying a wagon, how do you chose which to buy? All dogs are different shapes and sizes, so is it simply the weight limit that guides you? We’d say not - there are so many different variables. How large and heavy your dog is, of course, is important, what what else do you need to consider?

Does your dog like to stretch out generally, or do they prefer smaller, cosy spaces?

Do you need to transport the wagon in the car?

Do you have plenty of space to store it?

Well, hopefully this article can help you a little! We will compare the sizes, look at how they fit in a standard estate car and then our dogs model in a couple of different wagons as a comparison. There is no “right” model for your dog - it’s what they prefer, which is why we are advocates of renting or trying before you buy! We can give advice, but you know your dog better than us!

L to R - Comfort ECO Air, Sporty, Hercules

This shows the wagons from all different sides as well as folded. The quick release wheels come off in seconds, so they fold up even smaller than this with the wheels off.

These are our boys - Max (black and white) and Jeff modelling in the Sporty. They’re both Sprocker Spaniels, Max is 18kg and short and squat (sorry Max but it’s true!), Jeff is 22kg and tall and much longer than his brother. We’ve used the Sporty for both our boys and they have plenty of space in it and can turn around comfortably.

Here the boys are modelling the Hercules. This allows for dogs up to 50kg and is pretty large! It has plenty of space to lie in any direction. They’d probably both fit in together, but that would likely cause an argument!

The Comfort Air is a little too small for our boys (in our opinion) and neither would be a fan of being lifted into it - they’re quite independent dogs! So I’m afraid we have no images of them in it! Max sat next to it to give an idea of scale though!

Next we demonstrate the size of the wagons put in the boot of a standard estate car (for reference it’s a Peugeot 308 - a rather dirty one - apologies!) Above is the Comfort with wheels on and wheels off. The wheels are quick release and can be taken off and put back on in seconds. The whole wagon folds on the press of a button.

Next we have the Sporty. Without wheels it takes up very little space and again the wheels come off in seconds and folds easily too.

The Hercules is our largest wagon, but still folds well and with the wheels off it only takes up a small amount of the boot. The wheels and folding mechanisms are different to the others, but equally as quick!

We hope that these images may help you to make a decision about what wagon you might want to use. We also offer free advice - just complete our online form to receive personalised advice about wagons. However, we can’t guarantee which wagon will “work” as all dogs are different, so our advice is just guidance. We will soon be able to share a video that a friend of K9 Wagons and an amazing dog therapist is producing to help you and your dog get used to their wagon! Watch this space! If you need any more images, please let us know and we’ll see what we can do to help!

So… size really does matter!
